How to make £150 with one easy change
I've made nearly £300 just from switching my current account in the last three years.
I now have two bank accounts, and thinking of switching one again, as there are some pretty good cash incentives around at the moment.
First Direct is offering £100 to switch; Halifax £50 upfront and £85 in another six months, and NatWest and HSBC are both offering £150 to switch.
It's so easy to switch account when you use the switching service, all direct debits are carried over and you don't need to worry about any of the paperwork between the two accounts.
Of course, it's important to have a current account that suits your needs, whether that's a cheap overdraft or high interest.
I know lots of people are reluctant to switch bank account - precisely because they are happy with their provider.
Part of the reason I ended up with two bank accounts is so I can keep one that I like and use another for switching.. if you want to do this, just make sure you keep track of any conditions about how much needs to be paid in each month, or minimum number of direct debits.
I now have a reward account with Halifax and the classic plus with TSB.
Halifax used to pay £5 a month, but over the last couple of years this has been reduced to only £2.
TSB pays 5% on in-credit balances up to £1,500, so I get just over £6 a month and use it as a bit of an easy access savings account.
So i'm probably going to switch the Halifax account, as I don't really feel that I get that much benefit other than the £2 a month, which is easily trumped by one of the switching offers above.
So how long have you had your bank account and is it time for a change?
